Robert Eggers, the visionary director behind "The Witch" and "The Lighthouse", is set to release his highly anticipated gothic horror film "Nosferatu" on December 25, 2024. This remake of the 1922 silent classic, based on Bram Stoker's 1897 novel "Dracula", promises to deliver a chilling new interpretation of the timeless vampire tale.

"Nosferatu" stars an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe. The film's journey from concept to screen has been long and fraught with delays, beginning its development as far back as 2015, following the release of Eggers' breakout film "The Witch."

Eggers originally intended "Nosferatu" to be his sophomore feature. Describing it as a passion project, he chose to delay its production to first direct "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman". Notably, Anya Taylor-Joy, who frequently collaborates with Eggers, was initially attached to the project. However, she had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.

Casting for the film gained momentum in September 2022, with Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp confirmed as the leads. Nicholas Hoult joined the cast the following month, and the remaining cast members were announced in early 2023.

Principal photography took place in Prague and its surroundings from February to May 2023. This choice of location is fitting, given Prague's historic architecture and atmospheric streets, which are expected to enhance the film's eerie aesthetic.

Fans of gothic horror and classic cinema are eagerly awaiting Eggers' reimagining of "Nosferatu." The original 1922 film, directed by F. W. Murnau, is renowned for its expressionist style and is considered a masterpiece of early horror cinema. Eggers' adaptation aims to honour this legacy while bringing a fresh perspective to the story.

Focus Features, the studio behind the film, has announced that "Nosferatu" will be released theatrically in the United States on December 25, 2024. The European release dates are yet to be confirmed, but the film's distribution across international markets is highly anticipated.

Eggers' distinct directorial style, marked by meticulous historical accuracy and a knack for creating tense, atmospheric scenes, has garnered critical acclaim. His previous works, "The Witch" and "The Lighthouse," have been praised for their unique storytelling and visual artistry. "Nosferatu" is expected to follow in this tradition, offering audiences a visually stunning and psychologically gripping horror experience.

With its combination of a talented cast, a dedicated director, and a story that has captivated audiences for over a century, "Nosferatu" is poised to be a significant release in the 2024 film calendar.
