Production for the second season of the critically acclaimed Netflix series "Wednesday" is now underway in Ireland, with several high profile new cast members joining the ensemble. The series, which has rapidly become one of the most watched English language shows on Netflix with over 250 million views, continues to draw significant attention with its star studded cast and unique storytelling.

The show's lead, Jenna Ortega, alongside director Tim Burton, have been spotted in Dublin, igniting excitement among fans and locals. Netflix has confirmed that filming commenced this week, with Ardmore Studios in Co. Wicklow among the chosen locations. The decision to relocate production from Romania to Ireland was made to overcome the logistical challenges encountered during the first season.

Among the new faces joining the cast this season are Hollywood veterans Christopher Lloyd and Thandiwe Newton, as well as British actress Joanna Lumley. They will be joining returning actors including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who have been promoted to series regulars.

"Wednesday" showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar expressed their enthusiasm about the expanded cast, stating, “We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces”.

Other returning actors include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor. Christina Ricci, who famously portrayed Wednesday in the 1990s Addams Family films, continues in her new role within the series.

Filming is set to take place across various locations in Ireland, benefiting from the country’s scenic landscapes which are expected to add a rich, atmospheric depth to the show's gothic aesthetic.

In a statement last November, Screen Ireland welcomed the continuation of the partnership, writing, “Delighted to welcome the second series of the hit show Wednesday to Ireland next year and to continue building Ireland’s relationship with Netflix and Amazon/MGM”.

The series has not only captured the imaginations of viewers globally but has also had a noticeable impact locally, with celebrities like Tim Burton seen engaging with the community, such as during his visit to the Guinea Pig restaurant in Dalkey. The restaurant shared their delight on Instagram, posting, “Tonight we had the pleasure of looking after Tim Burton, a gentleman, who also took the time for a photo with us. Lovely to have you @guineapigrestaurant in Dalkey”.

With the production now in full swing, expectations are high for the new season of "Wednesday", which promises to bring more of its signature dark charm to audiences around the world.
