NASA To Host Live Public Meeting On Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena

NASA has announced it will conduct a public meeting to discuss findings from its investigation into unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP). The meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 31, 2024 will be the first of its kind where the independent study group will share insights from their nearly year long study. Viewers can tune in to a live broadcast of the event starting at 10:30 a.m. ET (1430 GMT) via NASA TV’s free livestream, linked at the end of this article.
Established in June 2022, the independent study group, tasked with analysing UAP related data, comprises 16 experts including former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, alongside academics and professionals from the aerospace and aviation industries, as well as a science journalist. According to NASA, the panel has been examining unclassified data only, aiming to enhance the scientific understanding of these phenomena.
Thomas Zurbuchen, former associate administrator for science at NASA headquarters, emphasised the group's objective stating, “It was formed in part to move the scientific understanding of UAP forward and take a field that is relatively data poor and make it into a field that is much more data rich and therefore worthy of scientific investigation and analysis”.
Following the meeting, an audio only stream will be accessible where Dan Evans from NASA's Science Mission Directorate, along with David Spergel, the president and chair of NASA’s UAP independent study team, will engage in a media teleconference.
This initiative by NASA aligns with broader efforts by the U.S. government to investigate UAPs, with the Department of Defense establishing a dedicated office in 2022 to study unidentified objects across different domains, including space, air, and water.
Notably, during a recent Senate Committee on Armed Services hearing in April 2024, the director of the government funded UAP group reported that after studying hundreds of incidents, they have found "no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off world technology or objects that defy the known laws of physics".
