American model and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen discovered she had been matched with her own profile in a DNA test, leading to initial beliefs that she had an identical twin. The revelation was shared by Teigen, aged 37, through an Instagram post earlier this week.

Teigen, who has often been candid about her personal life, embarked on a health and wellness journey supported by her therapist and doctor, during which she decided to undergo a DNA test with 23andMe to learn more about her family history and health predispositions. Although previously familiar with the service for ancestry insights, she opted for a comprehensive upgrade this time around.

After receiving her results, Teigen was surprised to see a match listing an identical twin named "BB". This led to a flurry of inquiries with her family and the DNA testing service. "I call my dad and I literally say, 'Dad, hey, did you see me come out of mom's vagina and were there two of me?'", Teigen recounted the conversation with her father, Ron Teigen Sr., who confirmed that she was indeed born alone.

The mix-up was later clarified by Teigen's sister, who reminded her that their entire family had participated in DNA testing under pseudonyms for an unaired segment of the PBS series "Finding Your Roots", hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. The series, which has featured various celebrities including Julia Roberts and Viola Davis, explores the ancestry of its guests.

Teigen humorously concluded, "My identical twin was myself. I was matching myself", resolving the confusion surrounding her DNA test results. This episode drew a wide range of reactions from her followers and celebrities alike, with comments flooding her Instagram. Among them was her husband, musician John Legend, who playfully lamented, "RIP Sissy Teigen".

The incident not only highlighted a humorous anecdote from the world of celebrity DNA testing but also shed light on the complexities and potential pitfalls of genetic testing and interpretation.
