Fauci & Collins Lied to Congress, "gain-of-function" Reference Removed from NIH Website
Bizarre/Strange
Saturday 1st, January 2022
Over the summer in 2021 Dr.Fauci testified in front of congress about National Institutes of Health (NIH) using US taxpayers money to fund controversial and potentially dangerous gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China. Fauci denied any involvement of the NIH in the gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China when questioned by Republican senator Rand Paul.
Fast forward a couple of months later and the NIH had removed all references to gain-of-function from its website page related to potential pandemic pathogens. Due to some of the great archive websites available on the internet and to individuals putting in the hours to monitor these websites we know that these changes have been made, below is some of the text that was removed from the NIH website on the potential pandemic pathogens page.
"The term gain-of-function (GOF) research describes a type of research that modifies a biological agent so that it confers new or enhanced activity to that agent."
"The subset of GOF research that is anticipated to enhance the transmissibility and/or virulence of potential pandemic pathogens, which are likely to make them more dangerous to humans, has been the subject of substantial scrutiny and deliberation."
"Such GOF approaches can sometimes be justified in laboratories with appropriate biosafety and biosecurity controls to help us understand the fundamental nature of human-pathogen interactions, assess the pandemic potential of emerging infectious agents, and inform the public health and preparedness efforts, including surveillance and the development of vaccines and medical countermeasures."
"This research poses biosafety and biosecurity risks, and these risks must be carefully managed. When supported with NIH funds, this subset of GOF research may only be conducted in laboratories with stringent oversight and appropriate biosafety and biosecurity controls to help protect researchers from infection and prevent the release of microorganisms into the environment."
The details of the quiet change of the web page was outed by @JeremyRedfernFL on twitter on the 22 of October 2021. Additionally to the removal of GOF any references were replaced with Enhanced Potential Pandemic Pathogen (ePPP).
The NIH is still committed by existing contracts to fund GOF research including in Wuhan, China until at least 2025.
This isn't the only time a definition has been changed, the World Health Organisation (WHO) changed the definition of 'pandemic' shortly before the Swine Flu pandemic in 2009.
In April 2009 the definition of an influenza pandemic by WHO was, "An influenza pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus appears against which the human population has no immunity, resulting in epidemics worldwide with enormous numbers of deaths and illness.". Then in May of the same year the definition of an influenza pandemic by WHO was classed as, "A disease epidemic occurs when there are more cases of that disease than normal.". The vast change in the two versions of an influenza pandemic is very stark and creates many more questions as to the reasoning around drastic changes.
Another example is the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the US who changed the definition of 'vaccination', pre-2015 the definition was, "Injection of a killed or weakened infectious organism in order to prevent the disease.", then between 2015 to 2021 the definition of 'vaccination' by the CDC was, "The act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce immunity to a specific disease." and then in September 2021 the CDC changed the definition of 'vaccination' again to be, "The act of introducing a vaccine into the body to produce protection from a specific disease.".
On the CDC changes to the definition of 'vaccination' it can be argued that there were a few changes over a period of years due to the advancement of technologies and introduction of mRNA based vaccines, but that's a whole other area to cover.
Another example of a changed definition in relation to pandemic and diseases is the definition of 'herd immunity' by WHO. In November 2020 the WHO stated the definition of 'herd immunity' as, "Herd immunity is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection.", jumping forward to October 2021 and WHO's definition of 'herd immunity' reads as, "WHO supports achieving 'herd immunity' through vaccination, not by allowing a disease to spread through any segment of the population, as this would result in unnecessary cases and deaths."
These text changes could be simply due to the evolving nature of science, medicine, vaccinations etc. or could there be some other motive…? The decision is up to you, as rarely a definitive answer comes along as individuals involved in these types of controversies are just out to cover their own ass by any means necessary.
