The latest update in the 2008 disappearance of a 15 year old Irish girl, Amy Fitzpatrick disappeared on a short trip home from a friend's house after babysitting.

A new witness has made contact with police investigating the disappearance of Amy Fitzpatrick in Spain in 2008.

The witness's statement has been given to the homicide unit of the Guardia de Civil by Irish diplomats and the Gardai have also received the new information from the new witness.

The new witness statement is said to contain information about who Amy Fitzpatrick was socialising with prior to her disappearance. This statement contained a list of names of individuals who are reported to have been much older than Amy Fitzpatrick.

The witness is reported to have lived in the Costa de Sol at the time of Amy's disappearance and knew Amy. The witness is reported to have said in their statement that the believe Amy Fitzpatrick was killed as a direct consequence of the people she started associating with.

The witness reports that Spanish authorities are starting to accept they were too quick to dismiss Amy as a missing person and should have put more time into a serious line of inquiry, including murder.

An individual in the Irish government has said,
"This information has been passed onto both the Spanish police and the Gardai."

"We believe it is significant and merits the case being upgraded to the murder probe."

"The homicide unit of the Guardia de Civil who are dealing with the case know about it."

"The new witness paints a detailed picture of Amy's life in Spain and we all need to get to the bottom of the reason why she disappeared."

"A full scale murder investigation in Spain is the only way we will get to the truth."

"The Gardai are more than willing to assist their Spanish counterparts in whatever people need to be interviewed here."
