The UK Airprox Board's primary objective is to enhance air safety in the UK is looking into a reported incident which occurred on the 16th of November 2022 where an unknown object passed on the right had side of an aircraft.
A large military aircraft, an RAF Atlas was flying over Currock Hill in Tyne and Wear, England when the incident occurred.
Initially it was though that the object could have been a drone but that was quickly ruled out when the aircraft's flight crew described the object as about three feet wide, black in colour and circular in shape.
The investigation team stated that they were "unable to determine the nature" of the object.
Additionally the board went on to state that, "Providence had played a major part in the incident and/or a definite risk of collision had existed,".
