Increase of 2 Probable Cases - Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children Latest Update from Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) - 12th October 2022

There has been 2 new probable cases of hepatitis in children of unknown cause since the update on the 28th of September 2022 from the HPSC.
This increase in 2 cases brings the total probable cases from 29 to 31 on the 12th of October 2022.
All probable cases are in children between the ages of 0 and 12 years of age, 30 of the 31 cases were hospitalised. Two children have received a liver transplant and there has been one death associated with this disease.
There is still no single virus or source that can be identified to point to the cause of these cases of hepatitis in children.
