In South Dublin lies a castle with a rich history, from a phantom dog to a ghost that walks the halls of the castle in search for his true love and there have also been reports of a spirit boy who was murdered and is said to roam the grounds of Rathfarnham castle.

The spirit that has been reported to roam the interior of Rathfarnham castle looking for his true love has been reported to be carrying a sword and seeking the bones of his love. In 1880 it has been said that skeletal remains were found that had been hidden in the castle for over 100 years.

The story behind the woman's fate was due to two potential suitors that were in a feud to have the woman's hand in marriage. The two suitors fought in a duel to win the privilege to have the woman's hand in marriage, as this duel was taking place, it’s not known for definite but either the woman hid herself away behind wooden panelling or she was locked away by the suitors while the duel took place. In an unfortunate twist both suitors perished during the duel leaving the woman locked away with no one else knowing her whereabouts.

There is also the story of the phantom dog at Rathfarnham castle, the story goes that it was a cold winter and a lake at the castle was frozen over, a group of people were skating on the frozen lake when it gave way and a man fell through the ice, the dog jumped into the hole of the ice to rescue the man, unfortunately both the man and the dog perished.

A statue was erected on the site of Rathfarnham castle in memory of the courageous dog, since the tragic day on the lake the phantom dog has been reported to have been seen around the grounds of the castle.
