Increase of 1 Probable Case - Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children Latest Update from Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) - 17th August 2022

There has been one new probable case of hepatitis in children of unknown cause since the update on the 3rd of August 2022 from the HPSC.
This increase in one case brings the total probable cases from 25 (25 probable cases were first reported on the 3rd of August 2022) to 26 on the 17th of August 2022.
All probable cases are in children between the ages of 0 and 12 years of age, 25 of the 26 cases were hospitalised. Two children have received a liver transplant and there has been one death associated with this disease.
There is still no single virus or source that can be identified to point to the cause of these cases of hepatitis in children.
