Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children Latest Update from Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) - 29th June 2022

There have been two additional probable cases of hepatitis in children of unknown origin since the update on the 22nd of June 2022 from the HPSC.
All probable cases are in children between the ages of 1 and 12 years of age, 15 of the 16 cases were hospitalised. Two children have received a liver transplant and there has been one death associated with this disease.
There is still no single virus or source that can be identified to point to the cause of these cases of hepatitis in children.
