Ireland Report / Story
There have been no new probable cases of hepatitis in children of unknown origin since the update on the 15th of June 2022 from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) with a small number of cases still under investigation.

It's being reported now by the HPSC that this number of cases is more than would usually be expected in this period since March to June. This is odd given that on the 15th of June 2022 there were 14 probable cases reported and it was also stated, this number of cases would be typically seen over this period of time.

There is still no single virus that has been identified in all cases, with investigations continuing.

All probable cases are in children between the ages of 1 and 12 years of age, 13 of the 14 cases were hospitalised. Two children have received a liver transplant and there has been one death associated with this disease.
