Second Case of Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Child Requires Liver Transplant

A second child has traveled to the United Kingdom for a liver transplant due to Hepatitis which currently has no known cause.
The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) in an update on the 1st of June 2022 said that a second case of Hepatitis in children with no known cause required a liver transplant.
Additionally the HPSC has reported that there is 12 probable cases of hepatitis of unknown cause that have been identified in Ireland as of the 1st of June 2022, with another small number of cases under investigation.
No single virus of cause has been found in all cases to date and investigations continue.
All probable cases are aged between 1 years old to 12 years old and all have been hospitalised. An we now know two cases have required a liver transplant.
