Newly released radar footage from a US Navy combat ship has revealed the presence of four unidentified aerial objects spotted off the coast of San Diego in February 2023. The footage, captured by the USS Jackson, shows what are described as “tic-tac” shaped objects, observed both visually and via radar systems by trained naval personnel.

The material was released by documentary filmmaker and ufologist Jeremy Corbell on his podcast Weaponized. According to Corbell, the objects exhibited flight characteristics inconsistent with known aircraft, including the ability to move without visible propulsion systems and to perform high-speed, coordinated manoeuvres.

The first of the four unidentified objects was observed on the night of 13 February 2023. An active-duty naval officer reportedly witnessed the object emerging directly from the Pacific Ocean before transitioning into flight. The object was described as “self-illuminated” and lacking any exhaust or plumes typical of conventional propulsion. The officer immediately proceeded to the radar control room and initiated tracking via the ship’s forward-looking infrared radar (FLIR) system.

Audio from the radar room, included in the footage, captures the reactions of the naval personnel observing the radar display.

“That s–t took off earlier”, one Navy operator can be heard saying, referring to the movement of the object.

“What’s that 22-thousand feet?” another officer asks, referencing the altitude - approximately 6.7 kilometres.

“Scramble the jets”, one voice is heard saying, apparently in jest.

“I tell ya what, wouldn’t surprise me”, another replies.

The radar display shows white cruciform shapes appearing, which according to Corbell, indicated physical objects were present, although the system struggled to maintain a lock on them. The four objects reportedly departed the area in a simultaneous and coordinated manoeuvre.

Corbell stated that the naval officers involved were trained observers and that their willingness to come forward represented a “risk” on their part.

“You have trained observers, people that are taking a risk by going to journalists or putting it out”, Corbell said while introducing the footage.

This incident has drawn comparisons to earlier events in July 2019, when multiple US Navy vessels operating off the California coast reported encounters with unidentified aerial objects. Those objects were described as glowing orbs, approximately one metre in diameter, which reportedly manoeuvred in unusual ways and evaded radar detection.

Like the objects seen in 2023, the 2019 sightings involved no visible propulsion systems, a detail which continues to puzzle experts and investigators. Dr Chiao, who commented on both cases, emphasised the lack of conventional flight signatures.

The US Department of Defense has not publicly confirmed or commented on the 2023 incident. Investigations into Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) remain ongoing under the remit of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), established to analyse and report on such sightings.
