A new report has emerged concerning an alleged sighting of the so called “Black Eyed Child” on Cannock Chase, a location long associated with paranormal phenomena. The sighting was shared by local author and investigator Lee Brickley, who received a detailed account from a witness who encountered the figure near Birches Valley one evening.

According to Brickley, the witness - a man in his early 30s who requested anonymity - was cycling through the forest at dusk when the incident occurred.

“I was heading back toward the car park after a long ride through the forest”, the man said. “The sun had just dipped behind the trees, and everything had that orange-pink glow. It was quiet - eerily quiet. That’s when I saw her”.

He described seeing a young girl, approximately ten years of age, standing motionless just off a side trail. She was barefoot and dressed in white, and the witness said her appearance was unnerving.

“She was just standing there, barefoot, not moving. I thought maybe she was lost, or in trouble, so I stopped and called out to her. That’s when she looked up – and I swear to you, her eyes were completely black. No whites, no pupils, just total darkness.”

He reported feeling a deep, instinctive sense of fear.

“She didn’t say anything. She just stared at me. It felt like time slowed down. Then, without warning, she let out this high-pitched, unnatural scream – like nothing I’ve ever heard – and ran off into the woods. I didn’t stick around. I pedalled as fast as I could back to the car.”

The man said he was approximately 1.5 kilometres from the car park when the encounter took place and estimates that he cycled away at around 25 kilometres per hour.

Brickley noted that this report aligns closely with previous accounts from the Cannock Chase area, many of which describe a young girl with jet-black eyes, often accompanied by a strong sense of unease or terror. Sightings of this nature have been reported intermittently over the past decade.

The area around Birches Valley has also been linked to other unexplained events, including unidentified aerial phenomena and reported ghost sightings.

Brickley confirmed he has contacted Forestry England to determine whether any unusual activity was logged on the evening in question. He also stated his intention to revisit the location for further investigation.

The sighting was first shared on Brickley’s website, where he invited others who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area to come forward.

This latest report has rekindled local interest in the legend of the Black Eyed Child, a figure which continues to intrigue and unsettle residents and visitors alike.
