A seasoned hiker reported seeing an unidentified large, bipedal figure while walking in the Sperrin Mountains, Northern Ireland, in December 2015. The witness, who has been hiking across Ireland since 2004, described the figure as standing over 2.4 metres tall and moving quickly across open ground.

The hiker recounted the experience, stating,
"I had walked to three hilltops surrounded by dense forest and was heading back up a hill towards a tree line to my car when I saw something very tall and large moving faster behind me one kilometre away. It was walking, heading down the hill towards me on a route I had just taken."

Despite being an experienced outdoor enthusiast familiar with various terrains and weather conditions, the witness was unable to identify the figure. They added,
"I am not easily spooked, but I did not hang about as I am of the opinion if it wanted to, it could have caught up with me easy. I have pondered this for a while now, but I have not a clue what it was to this day."

The sighting took place near Carnelly West Top, a peak standing at 505 metres, as the hiker was heading towards Mullaghbane Summit. The figure, which was estimated to be travelling at a significant speed, followed a fence line down the hill.

The hiker, who regularly encounters other walkers, deer, and vehicles such as quad bikes in the mountains, emphasised that this was unlike anything they had seen before. They explained,
"All I can say the 'thing' I saw, for want of a better word, was out in the open following a fence down a hill I had just left in the same direction. It was moving fast and was on two legs and 8 foot plus easy in height. I am not one for seeing things but this was huge and spooked me big time."

Concerned by the encounter, the hiker decided to wait at their car to see if the figure would appear over the summit, but it never re-emerged. Reflecting on the sighting, they said,
"Not something I wish to repeat again."

The witness has since begun carrying a monocular while hiking and believes camera traps in the area could help to document any similar sightings. They noted that despite extensive experience in Ireland's remote landscapes, this remains one of the most unusual encounters they have ever had.

There have been no official reports of large unidentified bipeds in the Sperrins, though the area remains largely unpopulated and consists of vast open moorland and forests. Experts suggest that optical illusions, lighting conditions, or misidentification of known animals could explain such sightings, though the witness remains certain that what they saw was out of the ordinary.

The Sperrin Mountains, located in County Tyrone and County Derry, are among the most remote and least explored areas of Northern Ireland, making them a location of interest for those investigating unexplained phenomena.

Have a look at one of the recent videos from SAWS Lost Souls from the Sperrin mountains, as they talk about some events that some might put down as missing time... as well as some fun of trying to hide from a car messing with them or park ranger or police?
