4 minute read.
In January 2025, several reported unexplained aerial phenomena were logged across Ireland. Witnesses in various locations, across the whole island of Ireland, observed strange lights, unusual movements, and other mysterious occurrences in the sky. These are just a few of the total cases reported in January 2025.
Newry, Northern Ireland (January 1st, 2025)
On January 4, 2025, at approximately 5:00 PM, a bright white orb was observed near the Northern Ireland border. The sky was clear, and the object appeared motionless at first, shining too brightly to be a star and seeming too large and close for a conventional explanation. After a brief period, it suddenly accelerated at an extraordinary speed, moving westward in a curved trajectory resembling a "Nike swoosh" before disappearing from view. Its rapid movement and unusual path ruled out typical aircraft or natural celestial objects.
Dalkey, Ireland Sighting (January 15th, 2025)
At approximately 10:15 AM local time, a lone witness observed a bright, stationary light in the sky while driving up Killiney Road toward Ballinclea in Dalkey, County Dublin. The object appeared to be in the direction of or directly above Rocheshill. Initially assuming it was an aeroplane, the witness quickly realised it was not moving.
Concerned by the unusual nature of the sighting, the witness pulled over to document the object. This took around 10 seconds, during which they were focused on parking rather than observing the sky. Upon exiting the vehicle and looking back up, the object had completely vanished. The witness spent approximately two minutes scanning the sky but did not see the light again or notice any other unusual aerial activity.
The sky was clear and blue with no visible clouds. The witness did not see or hear any aeroplanes or helicopters in the vicinity at the time. While contrails from aircraft were visible in other parts of the sky, the object in question did not leave any trace. The estimated distance of the object was around 1 kilometre, but its size and speed were impossible to judge accurately.
The witness, familiar with normal air traffic, found the bright, motionless nature of the light—along with its sudden disappearance—particularly strange. Despite attempting to document the sighting, no photos or videos were captured due to the object's unexpected vanishing. There were no known additional witnesses, and the area was quiet at the time of the event.
Youghal, Ireland Sighting (January 24th, 2025)
On the evening of January 24, 2025, at approximately 7:30 PM local time, two witnesses were standing on a pier overlooking a river in Youghal, County Cork, when they observed a series of unusual events. The sighting began with a large flash of light resembling a lightning strike, but there was no accompanying thunder or sound. About 30 seconds later, a second similar flash occurred, again with no sound.
Once the second flash dissipated, the witnesses noticed a low-flying, dim orange/red orb hovering just a few feet above the river. The orb appeared spherical, about the size of a beach ball, and seemed to glow with a dim, lava-like colour. Although the orb was not very bright and was somewhat difficult to see, its steady movement made it stand out. The object moved at a consistent pace of about 88 km/h, travelling in a straight line down the river towards the ocean. As it reached the water’s edge, the orb turned eastward and continued toward the ocean.
In addition to the orb, the witnesses observed numerous flashing and blinking lights in the sky, especially in the vicinity of the water and near the horizon. Some of these lights appeared to move horizontally back and forth, adding to the unusual nature of the event. The object’s physical characteristics, along with the surrounding lights and strange flashes, left the witnesses with a sense of curiosity and intrigue regarding the source of the phenomenon.
Glenbrohane, Ireland Sighting (January 29th, 2025)
Around 8:00 PM local time, a single observer in Glenbrohane, County Limerick, noticed a warm light in the sky, visible in a field across from their house. Over the past few weeks, the light had been appearing intermittently, floating and swaying in the sky like a balloon. The object moved unconventionally, and the observer, familiar with aircraft and drone behaviour, ruled out aeroplanes, helicopters, or stars. The light didn’t resemble anything familiar, as it lacked any sound or clear pattern of movement. Some nights it would be absent, while on other nights, it would appear in the same spot, only to disappear after a short time. The observer couldn't explain the phenomenon.
