A former United States Air Force veteran, Jake Barber, has alleged involvement in a secret programme to recover unidentified flying objects (UFOs) of nonhuman origin. Speaking to NewsNation, Barber claimed he worked as a contractor to recover downed craft, including objects he described as "extraordinary and anomalous".

Barber stated, "Just visually looking at the object on the ground, you could tell that it was extraordinary and anomalous. It was not human." He described one such object as "an egg, a white egg", and added, "It’s inconsistent with anything I’d ever seen before. I can also tell you that the reaction by my team, we all knew we were dealing with something extraordinary".

According to Barber, members of the UAP Task Force later confirmed that what his team encountered was connected to nonhuman intelligence (NHI). "Over the last couple of years, it’s been confirmed to me by ranking members of the UAP task force that what we were working with that night was, in fact, NHI, and it was not a unique experience", he said.

Barber’s claims are reportedly supported by three high-ranking military veterans, who provided on-the-record statements to NewsNation. The broadcaster has also obtained footage of an alleged UFO crash retrieval, which aired in a special report titled Hunting UFOs: The Crash Retrieval Whistleblower on Saturday the 18th of January 2025.

Despite these accounts, scepticism remains. The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) stated that it is aware of Barber’s claims. However, Department of Defense spokesperson Sue Gough responded in a statement, “...has not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programmes regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently”.

This latest revelation follows similar claims by other whistleblowers, including Lue Elizondo and David Grusch, whose allegations prompted Congressional hearings in 2023. While the subject of UFOs has transitioned from conspiracy to mainstream discourse, critics argue that evidence remains elusive.

The footage acquired by NewsNation didn't live up to the hype, past releases of supposed UFO videos have often failed to deliver the definitive "aha" moment that sceptics and believers alike are waiting for. Instead, they typically consist of grainy visuals or unexplained phenomena that could have terrestrial explanations.

Adding to the controversy, some observers suggest that such revelations could be part of a deliberate campaign of disinformation. If the U.S. government is indeed concealing knowledge of extraterrestrial technology, why allow select whistleblowers to reveal such secrets without consequence? Others contend that this could be an authentic attempt to prepare the public for a gradual disclosure of nonhuman intelligence.

The NewsNation special didn't provide any clarity and raises even more questions. However, until concrete, verifiable evidence is presented, beyond eyewitness accounts and ambiguous footage, the debate over UFO retrieval programmes remains speculative.
