The Yellow Enigma: Unmasking Northern Ireland’s Night Walker
Bizarre/Strange

Residents in Northern Ireland have been left unsettled following the appearance of a man dressed entirely in yellow, spotted late at night in the Kilrea area of Derry County. The individual, who was also wearing a white mask and a black wig, has prompted local police to step up patrols in the area.
The strange encounter was captured on video by Gerard McFerran, who happened upon the man while driving along Vow Road. McFerran shared his experience with Belfast Live, describing the peculiar sighting and the man’s unusual behaviour.
“I was driving down the Vow Road when I saw the man wearing all yellow walking down the road, and it seemed very strange,” McFerran explained. “I asked him why he was dressed like that, but he mostly ignored me and just kept walking. All he said was that ‘it wasn’t him,’ that he couldn’t get the mask off, and that he had been staying with a friend after getting a train up here.”
The man’s appearance sparked online speculation, with some claiming he was armed. However, McFerran has dismissed these rumours. “I think because he was fidgeting in his pocket, people thought this, but it wasn’t the case,” he said.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that they had received reports of a suspicious man in the area. In response, they have introduced proactive patrols to provide reassurance to residents.
“As a service, we take all reports very seriously, and I hope that the visibility of our officers today, alongside our commitment to continue to patrol shared public spaces, provides reassurance and boosts confidence that we are committed to doing everything we can to make areas safe,” a PSNI inspector stated.
The man, described as wearing a long yellow coat, trousers, and boots, remains unidentified. His cryptic remarks and odd behaviour have left the local community both puzzled and uneasy. The PSNI’s enhanced patrols aim to ensure the safety of residents while investigations into the reports continue.
For now, the mystery of the “yellow man” remains unsolved, leaving locals to speculate on the reasons behind his bizarre attire and enigmatic presence.
