Reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) over Irish airspace have intrigued the public for decades. Recent re-tellings of incidents described by authors Dermot Butler and Carl Nally have brought renewed attention to this topic. These accounts, which claim a pattern of secrecy by Irish authorities, have most likely intended to spark debate about the motivations behind the non-disclosure of certain information. However, a closer examination reveals a more nuanced reality, rooted not in conspiracy, but in strategic and operational concerns. The original article is linked below on Niall Feiritear's website titled, 'The Irish Government's secretive hold on UFO-UAP records'.

Dermot Butler and Carl Nally, figures involved UFO research and more recently with three books, have highlighted several incidents involving unexplained aerial phenomena over Ireland. According to them, the Irish Government has been reluctant to release official documents on these cases, leading some to suspect intentional secrecy. However, understanding the practices of the Defence Forces (the Irish military) and An Garda Síochána (the Irish police) sheds light on why certain details might remain undisclosed.

Military organisations worldwide operate under strict protocols to safeguard sensitive information. This includes not only the content of the reports but also the methods and technologies used to gather intelligence. Disclosing specific details could inadvertently reveal reconnaissance capabilities or vulnerabilities, posing a risk to national security. The release of some or certain information in the reports might give away a very earthly piece of sensitive information, for example, the capabilities of reconnaissance to an enemy state.

This point underscores that withholding information is often a strategic necessity rather than a deliberate effort to obscure the truth about UFOs.

Contrary to allegations of total secrecy, individuals who have requested documents from the Defence Forces or An Garda Síochána regarding UFO sightings have, in many cases, received responses. Since the 1990s, queries and requests under Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provisions have resulted in the release of documents, including official reports, newspaper clippings, and handwritten letters from numerous Irish based state organisations.

This level of transparency suggests that while some information may be redacted, it is not indicative of a wholesale cover-up.

Another dimension to this discussion is the possibility that some sightings are not extraterrestrial in origin but represent advanced human technology. Historical accounts, such as those involving aerospace pioneer Ben Rich, hint at significant technological developments. Rich, who reportedly discussed anti-gravity systems being tested as far back as the 1960s and 1970s, has sparked speculation about the capabilities of certain nations' secret projects.

Moreover, it is conceivable that billions of euros have been invested globally in research and development, resulting in cutting-edge technologies that remain classified. These could explain some of the objects observed by both civilians and military personnel.

For those convinced of extraterrestrial involvement, the notion of global collaboration in recovering and studying crashed UFOs is compelling. Publications like Immaculate Constellation and other investigative works have documented incidents suggesting international efforts to retrieve and study unexplained debris. One story alleges Vatican involvement in transferring a recovered object from Italy to the United States, illustrating the interconnected nature of such phenomena.

Whether these accounts represent genuine extraterrestrial artifacts or misidentified earthly technology, they highlight the complexity of the UFO narrative.

Recent years have seen a surge in public interest and governmental transparency concerning UFOs. Countries like the United States have declassified significant portions of their UFO investigations, with the Pentagon confirming the existence of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

Despite this, the release of sensitive information must always balance public curiosity with national security concerns. There is a real possibility that some or maybe even a lot of these objects are just years of effort and billions in currency spent on research and development.

The UFO phenomenon remains a subject of fascination and debate. While some argue that governments are intentionally hiding the truth about alien life, the reality is likely more complex. Strategic considerations, the protection of sensitive technologies, and the potential misidentification of advanced human innovations all play a role in shaping the narrative.

As we try to focus more so on the Irish paranormal cases and UFO reports it's interesting to see the different personalities that persist in the Irish community from the early 90's to the present day and how different individuals drop off the radar and then pop up again for a period of time and then disappear into the shadows for another, more prolonged period of time. But on the flip side you have those individuals that persist consistently through the years.

One would hope that the claims of Irish secrecy on UFOs isn't an attempt to drum up discussion with a new book in the pipeline for Butler and Nally.

With that said and all the misleading information out their, no doubt from may different dis-information operations the reality remains that only one case or report has to be proven true to break the supposed wall of secrecy and bring answers that many have sought for years.

As more information becomes available, the public’s understanding of these incidents will continue to evolve. Whether the truth lies in extraterrestrial visitation or earthly ingenuity, the pursuit of knowledge about UFOs reflects humanity’s enduring curiosity about the unknown.
