A seasoned police officer from Connecticut has provided a detailed account of a close encounter with an unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) during a routine midnight patrol in April 2022. The officer, Robert Klein, a 25-year veteran of law enforcement.
The incident occurred near a reservoir in Fairfield County when Klein observed a spherical object hovering approximately nine metres from his patrol car. He described the object as being roughly the size of a Mini Cooper and displaying an array of intense, colour-changing lights.
“I’ve seen my fair share of drones and meteors”, Klein said. “This was something I’ve never come across before”.
According to Klein, the object emitted bright light that cycled through red, green, white, and orange hues, giving it a “plasma-like” appearance. The intensity of the light was so strong that it filled the cab of his vehicle, momentarily blinding him.
“There was a really strong light. It lit up the entire cab of my cruiser to the point where I was having a hard time driving because I really couldn’t see. I was blinded by it”, he explained.
The officer also described the object's movement as "instantaneous." He noted that when he directed his spotlight at it, the object immediately travelled across the water at a speed that defied typical aerial behaviour.
“That’s when I sort of snapped out of it and took out my camera and started recording and taking pictures”, Klein said. “I couldn’t see it go from A to B, that’s how fast it moved”.
The object reportedly emitted a low hum, which Klein found distinct and noteworthy.
Ben Hansen, host of the Discovery+ programme UFO Witness, is investigating Klein’s report and has uncovered additional sightings in the same area. Hansen mentioned a separate incident at a local community centre where witnesses observed multiple orbs darting through the sky.
“Our team is going to be going out to Connecticut on the ground”, Hansen said. “We’re looking for more witnesses”.
Hansen emphasised that reports like Klein’s are vital for their investigation, especially given the officer’s background as a reliable, trained observer accustomed to identifying conventional aircraft and other aerial phenomena.
This incident adds to a growing number of UAP reports from credible sources, including military personnel and law enforcement officers. The United States government has recently taken a more transparent approach to UAPs, acknowledging their potential significance and dedicating resources to their study.
