A mysterious UFO encounter off the west coast of Ireland in 1945 is gaining fresh attention amid growing global interest in unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs). The incident, detailed in Conspiracy of Silence: UFOs in Ireland by Dermot Butler and Carl Nally, which was released in 2006, describes a craft landing on a beach, with non-human occupants reported to be collecting environmental samples.
While the book was originally published in 2006, recent interviews with Butler and Nally highlight how changing public attitudes and government disclosures have reignited interest in such accounts.
According to the report, a local man witnessed a strange craft while waiting for a boat to take him back to the mainland around Christmas 1945. The witness described a square-shaped craft with a domed top, illuminated by purple lights, that landed near the shoreline. The object reportedly emitted a sound “like a drill” and hovered over the water before settling on land.
Two beings emerged from the craft, collecting sand, seaweed, and water samples. The witness, hiding behind rocks, felt the beings were aware of his presence. After several minutes, they re-entered the craft, which rapidly ascended and disappeared.
The witness, fearing ridicule, kept his story private for decades. Even in 1976, when he shared his account with a BUFORA investigator, he insisted on anonymity. “He didn’t want the possibility that any local people in his home area might somehow get to read his account and trace it back to him”, Butler explained.
Butler and Nally have continued their investigations, uncovering other incidents with similar characteristics. “We found comparable cases around the Great Lakes in the U.S., where pilots experienced anomalies”, Nally revealed. One particularly strange case involved a pilot communicating with air traffic control after crashing, suggesting “a glitch in time”.
Their research also delves into potential connections between UFO sightings, paranormal events, and time anomalies. “Everything is connected”, Nally suggested, referencing incidents where UFO encounters were followed by poltergeist activity and reports of “missing time”.
The authors noted a significant shift in how UFO reports are received. “The stigma is disappearing, especially after the Pentagon's disclosures”, Nally said. He also highlighted that recent U.S. legislation references non-human intelligence, reflecting a broader willingness to engage with the topic.
Butler offered his perspective on the phenomenon, “I think some of them seeded us here. They may be in charge of our DNA and the species on this planet. It could involve off-world beings, interdimensional travellers, or something else entirely”.
As public interest grows, Butler and Nally are working on a new book to update their research and explore ongoing developments in the field.
“Be aware, be very aware”, Nally advised. “Always keep an open mind”.
