Fans of the paranormal were treated to a chilling episode of the Scary Eire podcast, hosted by Irish broadcaster Mark Manning. This week’s guests included Scottish comedian Billy Kirkwood and paranormal investigator PJ Sullivan. The episode explored supernatural tales from Scotland and Ireland, examining both folklore and real life investigations.

Billy Kirkwood, a well-known figure on the History Channel for his expertise in Scottish folklore, shared a variety of eerie stories. Among the highlights was the tale of Maggie Wall, a figure often remembered as a witch.

Another notable topic was the Loch Ness Monster, the legendary creature that has fascinated many for generations. Kirkwood also discussed Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom, a venue with a reputation for paranormal activity. Perhaps most intriguing was the story of Yester Castle, built by Hugh de Giffard. The castle’s caverns are believed by some to have been created using magic, adding to its mystique.

Kirkwood also revealed a personal connection to the paranormal, stating that he believes his own house may be haunted.

From County Kerry, Mark Manning spoke with PJ Sullivan, a paranormal investigator who has conducted over 400 paranormal investigations in Ireland. Sullivan leads the Puca Vogue Paranormal group, based in Killarney, which has explored numerous reportedly haunted locations.

Among these locations are Kinnity Castle and Leap Castle, the latter, often referred to as the most haunted castle in Europe. Sullivan described a harrowing encounter at Wicklow Gaol, a site notorious for ghostly activity.

In discussing investigation techniques, Sullivan covered the use of Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVPs) and shared practical advice for those interested in conducting their own paranormal research.

Providing historical context was David McGlynn, known on the podcast as “The Squire”. McGlynn, bridging the gap between folklore and documented events.

Scary Eire is a new podcast which only had the first two episodes released on the 30th of October 2024 and the 10th of November 2024.
