A recent dissection of a three fingered mummified hand in Peru has once again stirred global interest and debate over the mysterious specimens often referred to as the "Nazca Tridactyls." Discovered in the region of Nazca, these peculiar small mummies have sparked speculation about their origin, with some alleging they may be extraterrestrial. This latest development follows a dissection video showing the removal of what is claimed to be a “metal implant” from one of these hands, adding fuel to the ongoing debate among scientists, sceptics, and UFO enthusiasts.

In the video, Dr José Zalce Benitez, a forensic expert affiliated with Mexico’s navy, is seen removing a metallic piece from the hand of one of these controversial specimens. Dr Zalce described the extracted implant as a “very complex metal alloy that requires special knowledge and techniques to achieve such quality and purity”. According to his analysis, the alloy contains elements such as aluminium, tin, silver, copper, cadmium, and osmium. He emphasised that the intricate composition suggests a technology beyond current knowledge, though he did not claim any direct evidence of extraterrestrial origin.

The dissection video also depicts layers of tissue and bones, including what are suggested to be “metacarpal” bones, the bones within the palm of the hand. Dr Zalce clarified that this hand is a separate specimen from those brought before Mexico’s Congress in September 2023, when two alleged alien corpses were displayed by UFO researcher Jaime Maussan. These earlier specimens were said to be around 60 centimetres in length, leading to an unprecedented public display of alleged extraterrestrial remains within Mexico's highest legislative body.

Fernando Correa Dominguez, a reporter covering the story, provided additional context. Correa stated that the mummified hand had been rehydrated by Dr Zalce and his team to allow for a detailed examination. Initially, the doctors observed only dehydrated skin and tendon tissues, with no visible moisture inside the hand. Correa explained that a “special serum” was used to protect the tissue during the rehydration process, which has reportedly been employed in other forensic investigations. “We used a forensic technique to protect the tissue and minimise its degradation... a special serum that is used for the rehydration of corpses”, Dr Zalce said.

The metallic implant, once extracted, appeared as a silvery, scale like patch when tilted towards the camera, according to the video. However, critics argue that the visible tissue structures do not necessarily confirm alien biology, citing concerns that the dissection itself could be tampering with fabricated materials.

Despite the enthusiasm from some corners, scepticism remains high among the scientific community and Peruvian officials. Dr Flavio Estrada, a forensic archaeologist with Peru’s Institute for Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, has conducted separate examinations on similar specimens confiscated at Lima’s airport. His team’s findings concluded that two of the seized mummies were artificial constructs, likely assembled from the bones of various terrestrial animals. “They’re not extraterrestrials... it’s totally a made up story”, Dr Estrada stated following his January 2023 examination.

Other experts, including Colorado attorney Josh McDowell, argue that the specimens displayed at Mexico’s Congress differ from the confiscated mummies in Peru. McDowell claimed that some of the specimens seized by Peruvian customs appeared to be replicas, dressed in Andean inspired costumes. McDowell has advocated for “a true collaborative effort with a multidisciplinary team of scientists” to conduct further studies on these specimens, in coordination with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, to protect Peru’s heritage and conduct examinations legally and ethically.

Questions surrounding these alleged alien mummies remain complicated by allegations that they are replicas. According to Correa, the hand dissected in the recent video resembles those presented to Mexico’s Congress and aligns closely with other specimens from Peru’s desert region. Correa credited Dr Zalce and geneticist Dr Ricardo Rangel with leading investigations on these bodies. Rangel, whose research in 2023 focused on genetic analysis of the Nazca mummies, claims that there is a “probability greater than 50 percent” that these beings are not closely related to known Earth species.

Correa noted that the internal structure of the hand dissected in the video matched non-invasive scans performed on similar specimens, showing potential anatomical consistency. He stated, “Both [Rangel and Zalce] agreed on the inside of the hand... it comes from the same place where the other specimens were found, a cave in the Peruvian desert”.

The unveiling of the video has sparked extensive commentary online, where some users on the Reddit forum r/alienbodies expressed scepticism about the authenticity of the hand’s interior structure. One poster commented that the inside resembled “wet sludge and bones”, while another suggested it looked as if it were filled with “ground coffee beans”. Some posters argued that the recent video has made them increasingly doubtful of the mummies’ authenticity, though others remain intrigued by the possibility of further forensic revelations.

At present, debates about the Nazca Tridactyls remain unresolved, and while Correa and Dr Zalce assert that further examinations could reveal significant discoveries, only extensive, multidisciplinary scientific investigation will provide conclusive answers.
