A new reality series, “Flat Earthers”, is set to premiere this December on the freshly launched streaming service The Network. It's been revealed that this unique series, combining elements of a documentary and a competition, will feature five families who staunchly believe that the Earth is flat.

The show is designed to test these beliefs rigorously. Each family will receive resources worth €45,600 to conduct their own research. Their task will culminate in presenting their findings to a panel comprising scientists, theologians, and cartographers. The challenge? To convince a majority of the panel that the Earth is indeed flat. The cash prize for any successful family has yet to be disclosed, but it promises to be significant.

Aram Rappaport, creator of The Network, expressed excitement about the series, stating, “As we continue to deliver audiences free, premium content we are excited to announce this daring and genre-breaking docu-series. The Flat Earth phenomenon continues to grow on a global level. ‘Flat Earthers’ will provide a fascinating view into the psyche of the human condition and what drives belief systems worldwide”.

While it is uncertain if any of the families will be able to sway the expert panel, the series aims to highlight the increasing number of people in the United States and around the world who subscribe to flat Earth theories. Additionally, the show will delve into how such theories gain traction globally.

The Network, which launched on the 30th April 2024, is a free, ad-supported streaming platform with a distinct strategy. Instead of amassing a large library, it focuses on launching just two new shows at a time, with weekly episode releases - dramas on Tuesdays and comedies on Thursdays. The streamer prioritises original and “premium” content, believing that households are unlikely to fall in love with more than two pieces of content simultaneously.

Currently, The Network features two shows, “The Green Veil”, starring and executive produced by John Leguizamo, and “Chivalry”, created by, written by, and starring Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani. Both series have completed their first seasons, with “The Green Veil” already renewed for a second season. John Leguizamo’s performance has even made him a potential contender for an Emmy nomination.

Aram Rappaport, the brain behind The Network, is also the founder of the creative advertising agency The Boathouse. The streaming service is accessible on Apple, Android, Roku, and Amazon Fire devices, as well as via the web.

“Flat Earthers” promises to be a provocative addition to The Network’s catalogue, offering a deep dive into the psychology of belief systems and the persistence of unconventional theories in modern society.
